Review of the 2020 National Building Code

The Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture (NSFA) is excited to announce a request for proposals for the 2020 National Building Code Review project. This initiative is crucial for assessing the impact of the latest building code updates on the agricultural industry in Nova Scotia. Representing over 2,000 registered farms and more than 90% of the province’s primary agriculture production, NSFA has been a cornerstone of the farming community since 1895. We are dedicated to advocating for farm families and businesses, fostering a prosperous and sustainable future for agriculture in the region. Our values—collaboration, integrity, equity, inclusion, and innovation—guide all of our efforts.

The goal of this project is to review the 2020 National Building Code and Fire Code as they pertain to farm buildings, with a focus on enhancing safety, economic growth, and sustainability. The review will explore how these code updates impact the design, construction, and maintenance of farm structures, addressing challenges such as fire prevention and hazardous material storage. It will also examine how the new codes can support the resilience of farm buildings against climate-related challenges, ensuring that agricultural infrastructure is both modern and robust.

We invite consultants with experience in agricultural structures and operations to submit their proposals for this important project, which is slated to run for six months from September 27, 2024, to March 31, 2025.

Process to Apply

Proposals must be submitted in PDF format via email to policy@nsfa-fane.ca. Please ensure that your submission includes a cover letter, a detailed methodology, a budget breakdown, references, and the resumes of key personnel.

The deadline for proposal submissions is September 16, 2024, at 1:00 pm Atlantic Time. The selected consultant will be notified by September 27, 2024.
