Hosting Summer Students / Interns

Several programs are available to support employers in Nova Scotia who wish to host summer students or interns:

  • Graduate to Opportunity: Offered by the Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration, this program helps retain young graduates by providing a salary incentive, covering a portion of the graduate’s salary for the first two years of employment.
  • START Program: Designed to help connect employers with unemployed Nova Scotians, this program offers wage incentives and other funding to employers who hire local talent to fill job vacancies.
  • Growing Opportunities (CAHRC): This program supports Canadian agriculture employers in hiring local post-secondary students for full-time or part-time positions. It also offers wage subsidies to assist with these hires.
  • Youth Employment and Skills Program (AAFC): Provides wage subsidies to employers who hire youth for agricultural positions. The program covers 50% of wages, up to a maximum of $14,000, for eligible employers such as farmers, food processors, and agricultural NGOs.
  • Agriculture Skills Student Bursary Program: Supports students interested in agricultural career-related work experiences and skills development.

These programs help connect students with valuable work opportunities, while offering financial support to employers.
