FWD Strategy

The Farm and Workforce Development Strategy aims to build a resilient, skilled, and inclusive agricultural workforce in Nova Scotia. It focuses on promoting agricultural careers, strengthening community connections, and fostering innovation to meet the evolving needs of the industry.

Key Goals:

  • Strengthen Community Connection to Farming: Share information and celebrate agriculture careers to increase interest and engagement
  • Enhance Farm Workforce: Improve access to skills training, apprenticeships, and applied learning to build a well-trained workforce
  • Embrace Automation & Innovation: Promote the adoption of technology and innovation to improve efficiency and sustainability in agriculture.
  • Grow in Diversity: Create pathways for equity-deservingindividuals and communities to actively participate in the agricultural industry.
  • Manage Farms & People: Provide resources for strategic workforce planning, recruitment, retention, and succession planning.

At the heart of the strategy are the NSFA’s values of collaboration, integrity, equity, inclusion, and innovation, all aimed at strengthening Nova Scotia’s agriculture sector and ensuring its long-term success.
