From AGM to Farmers’ Forum: A Name That Reflects Who We Are

Every year, farmers from across Nova Scotia gather for what has long been called our Annual General Meeting (AGM). It’s been a chance to hear updates, take part in important decisions, and connect with others who share the same passion and challenges of farming.

But anyone who has attended knows it’s always been about much more than an AGM. Yes, the business of the organization gets done, but the real value has been the conversations in the hallways, the insights shared from the stage, and the opportunity to connect with fellow farmers. It’s always been a place for ideas, dialogue, and community.

That’s why we’re making a shift this year—not to change what the event is, but to give it a name that better reflects what it has already become. Going forward, our AGM will now be known as the Farmers’ Forum.

Why the New Name?

The term “AGM” has always described one important part of the event: the governance. It’s when we elect leadership, review reports, and take care of the official business required to keep our organization strong. But those who’ve attended know it has grown into something bigger.

Over the years, we’ve seen the AGM become a place where farmers gather to talk about issues facing the industry, share experiences from their own operations, and hear from guest speakers who inspire and inform. It’s been a place to connect, learn, and collaborate.

The name “Farmers’ Forum” captures that fuller picture. It highlights the event not only as a meeting, but as a gathering where voices are heard, ideas are exchanged, and community is built.

What Stays the Same

With this new name, you can expect everything you’ve come to value to remain the same:

  • The business of the organization: Reports, updates, and elections will continue to be central.
  • Farmer voices at the forefront: The conversations that matter most to your farms and communities will still drive the agenda.
  • Opportunities to connect: Time to catch up with familiar faces and meet new ones remains at the heart of the event.
  • Learning and inspiration: Speakers, panels, and stories will continue to bring fresh ideas and perspectives.

So while the name has changed, the purpose has not. Farmers’ Forum is simply a better reflection of the event you already know.

A Gathering of Old and New Faces

One of the things we look forward to most each year is the mix of people who attend. Some of you have been coming for years and know the rhythm of the day well. Others may be stepping into the room for the first time, eager to listen, learn, and connect.

That blend of new and familiar is what makes Farmers’ Forum special. It’s a reminder that while every farm is unique, we are all part of the same story. The connections made here often extend well beyond the event itself—leading to collaborations, friendships, and stronger community ties.

Looking Ahead

By adopting the name Farmers’ Forum, we’re shining a light on what this event has always been: a space where farmers come together to share their voices, learn from one another, and strengthen the future of agriculture in Nova Scotia.

We’re excited to welcome you to this year’s Farmers’ Forum. Whether you’re joining us again or for the very first time, your presence matters. Each person adds to the conversation and helps ensure our collective voice is strong.

So mark your calendar, bring your questions, and come ready to connect. We look forward to seeing both new and familiar faces at this year’s Farmers’ Forum—the same trusted gathering, now with a name that truly reflects what it has always been.
