Environment & Climate Change
Our Environment and Climate Change Team is dedicated to promoting sustainable agriculture that protects the environment, helps farms adapt to and mitigate climate change, and strengthens the resilience and prosperity of Nova Scotia’s agriculture industry. We offer programs designed to support the entire farming community.
One of our key initiatives is the Environmental Farm Plan—a confidential and voluntary program that helps farmers identify potential environmental risks on their land and adopt best management practices to address them.
We also work to enhance biodiversity on farms, recognizing that farmland ecosystems provide essential services like pollination and flood mitigation. The diverse wildlife that calls our farmlands home are not only vital to the environment, but also an iconic part of Nova Scotia’s natural beauty and heritage.
Through the Living Lab – Nova Scotia we bring together farmers, researchers, and industry experts to develop and test practical solutions for climate adaptation and mitigation. This initiative focuses on generating real-world data from working farms to ensure solutions are both effective and realistic.
