Celebrate 25 Years of Atlantic Open Farm Day on Sunday, September 21, 2025!

NOVA SCOTIA – There’s something about stepping onto a farm that taps into a kind of quiet wonder—rows of vegetables stretching toward the horizon, animals content in their pastures, and the earthy scents of life unfolding in real time. But more than anything, it’s the feeling of connection to the people and the land they work.

For the past 25 years, Open Farm Day has been offering Nova Scotians—and all Atlantic Canadians—a rare invitation: to go behind the scenes and experience the places and people who grow our food. We invite you to join us on Sunday, September 21, 2025 to celebrate the 25th Open Farm Day in Nova Scotia.

20 different farms across Nova Scotia – from Shelburne County to Cape Breton – will be participating in this year’s event and are looking forward to welcoming visitors! On farm, visitors will be able to explore working farms, meet the farmers who grow our food, and participate in educational activities for the whole family! Each participating farm will offer its own unique experiences such as farm tours, kids’ activities, demonstrations and conversations with local farmers.

“Congratulations to all the organizers, farm families, and visitors, in celebrating this milestone for Open Farm Day. Even after 25 years, showcasing the work of our producers remains as important as ever. This event helps people understand and appreciate what our farm families and agricultural entrepreneurs do here in Nova Scotia and across the country.”

– The Honourable Heath MacDonald, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food

“Visiting a farm provides a unique opportunity to get to know the dedicated farmers who grow our food — and add so much to the life of our communities. Bring your family and celebrate 25 years of Open Farm Day, where you’ll discover firsthand how our fresh, local, high-quality food is produced.”

– Honourable Greg Morrow, Minister of Agriculture

“There is no better time of the year than the fall for Nova Scotians to visit a local farm, discover the amazing produce we have to offer and meet the people behind them.  Our fruits, vegetables, dairy and meat products are the absolute best in the world.  When you support a local farm, you are supporting local families and enjoying some the best of what our province has to offer.  I encourage all Nova Scotians to take part in Open Farm Day, to buy local and be Nova Scotia Loyal year-round. “

– Honourable Colton LeBlanc, Minister of Growth and Development

“As both a farmer and through my role as president of the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture, I know firsthand the pride and hard work that go into producing food for our communities. Open Farm Day is our chance to open the gates, share our stories, and connect with people in a way that reminds us why we do what we do. For 25 years, this event has been building bridges between farmers and the public—and I’m excited for our participating farms to welcome visitors who will experience the heart of agriculture in Nova Scotia.”

– Alicia King, President, Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture
