Silage Seepage Containment Project

Scope:

• Provide a practical, real-world example of how existing silos can be retrofitted and at what cost to the farmer.
• Three phases:
  • Design of the diversion/containment systems
  • Construction of containment system
  • Reporting of results, including costs

Benefits

• Eliminate high-strength silage seepage runoff into the local environment
• Provide a “best practice” example of good management
• Report practical construction and costs will allow other farmers to determine what is involved for remediation of own silos

Outcomes:

• Banner for trade show displayed developed
• Follow up report of successfully working system in place to divert rainfall
